With a seasoned local and storyteller as your guide, this tour will take you on a lush, woodland trail, featuring a 150-ft cascading waterfall, rock gardens, and early 1900’s ruins—all in 2 hours! This tour is sure to enthrall all ages! Leashed dogs also welcome. Great for older kids who walk at an adult pace. (Babies and toddlers should be carried for safety reasons.)

You will meet your guide in Old Fort, NC just 25 minutes east of Asheville, NC, and proceed for a very short drive to the trailhead. Once you arrive at the trailhead, soak in scenery of Pisgah National Forest and prepare for some incredible storytelling! To begin, your guide will share intriguing facts about Southern Appalachian ecology and the history of Asheville as well as neighboring mountain towns. Feel the cool mountain air on your skin as the trail continues through an enchanted cove forest along an iconic trout stream.

Your guide will discuss the historical and modern uses of many of the plants that catch your eye. After hiking for approximately 1.25 miles, you will reach a breathtaking 150-ft waterfall, draping over moss-covered cliffs and then spend a relaxing hike back to the trailhead.

  • My husband and I wanted to find a hike to a waterfall but also knew the weather wasnt necessarily looking hiker friendly that day. Randy was our guide and he contacted us the day before to let us know he was watching the weather closely to ensure it would be safe. Fortunately, it held off until we were almost done. It was an easier hike, which was great and only 1.2 miles so we were done in a couple of hours. Randy knows so much about the nature on the trail and the prized waterfall at the end was worth seeing. So beautiful! We had a wonderful morning!

  • Randy was an excellent guide and had so much information to share with us. We had a wonderful hike and he shared tons of information with us. He even gave us other recommendations for activities we may also be interested in during our visit. My friend and I both enjoyed chatting with him and his tour. I definitely recommend!

  • Our guide, Emily, led our small group on an educational and easy walking hike to Catawba Falls. She met us near the entrance and was very knowledgeable about the history, flora and fauna. Good titip to go early to avoid the crowds.
