Itinerary

This tour is for the more fit travelers. Participants are expected to posses the ability to hike for five continuous hours up and down the nearby mountainsides. Our daily walking tours offer a similar experience in a less strenuous manner. While still a narrated tour, the interpretive hike covers more ground, and explores the glacier topology in depth. The extra time on the ground gives the group a chance to see the forested area near the Nenana river, the brushy but wildlife rich sub-alpine tundra, and the gorgeous views and highly adapted vegetation of the taiga.

Groups size is a maximum of 6 people. This is Alaska so bring your outdoor gear; sturdy walking shoes, water, jacket and rain gear, along with your camera and curiosity of this great land. Some of the basic equipment is available, including rain gear, water, overboots and trekking poles.

Stop At:

• Denali National Park, AK
• Denali Backcountry Guides, 1 Glacier Way, Denali National Park and Preserve, AK 99755

  • We did the Triple Lake hike with Dana, and she was very informative and pleasant throughout the whole trip. We saw a lot of native plants and even got to see some animals like the ptarmigan, beavers, and a rare lynx! Although it was a rainy day, it was a pretty nice hike with light drizzle that kept the bugs at bay. Thank you very much for waiting for our group too, since we were late due to road construction around Denali.

  • So glad we had an opportunity to take a guided hike up Sugarloaf Mountain. Dana was amazing- very knowledgeable and fun. She had hiking poles for everyone to use which made it that much better. Views were incredible. Highly recommend!

  • Guide was awesome, off trail hikeup. He was very knowledgeable, patience and super sweet. Also gave us the best tip on a restaurant 229 Parks - outstanding!! Highly recommend both!

  • We had a beautiful hike and a very informative guide. I really appreciated how they had planned a hike to accomadate us.

  • Had a great time hiking the Three Lakes Trail with Tyler. He knew all the stuff you'd expect from a guide--and so much more. I would go on, but, alas, all the mail and paperwork has piled up during our vacation, and we're hardly retired....

  • Great Hiking Tour!!! Emily was very knowledgeable about the area and did an awesome job!

  • Kevin, our guide, was excellent. Clearly, he loves nature and having him as a guide to explain the flora and fauna made the hike we took of Triple Lakes a memorable experience. This is not a hike deep into the park, so don't expect to see Mt McKinley, but is one that gives you an understanding of what the area is about and is a good intro to what Denali can offer. We had only 2 days and our first day we hiked up Sugar Loaf which is a steep climb, but also very worthwhile.
